EYE EXAMINATIONS

A full eye test generally takes 30-45 minutes to complete, so make sure you leave enough time if it is your first time visiting us. The reason we take a little longer than our competitors is that we want to ensure that you achieve the best possible vision.

Also as a part of the standard eye test, we run tests for eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and colour vision defects.

To give you an idea of what we do when we perform an eye exam, here is a general overview:

• Family and personal history review
• Examination of eyes’ exterior and interior for signs of eye disease or general health problems, such as diabetes or hardening of the arteries. This often includes a photo of the back of the eye.
• Tests of your ability to see sharply and clearly at near and far distances
• Tests to determine nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, depth perception problems, and presbyopia(an age-related condition affecting reading vision)generally found in people over age 40.
• A check of eye coordination and eye muscle function to be certain the eyes are working together as a team
• A test of the ability to change focus easily from near to far and vice versa

The exam also includes a discussion of the exam’s findings and any treatment prescribed, as well as personal advice about such matters as good vision on the job, eye safety and maintaining eye health.
